A microphone chip, also known as a microphone sensor or microphone die, serves as the core component in modern microphones. Its primary function is to convert sound energy into electrical signals that can be amplified and processed. These advanced chips are found in various devices, ranging from smartphones and laptops to voice recorders and professional audio equipment.

The Working Principle

1. Sound Waves and the Diaphragm

Let’s start by understanding how sound waves are captured. The diaphragm, a thin and flexible membrane, plays a key role in this process. When sound waves reach the microphone, they cause the diaphragm to vibrate. These vibrations are proportional to the changes in air pressure caused by the sound waves.
